It is day two of The Scott Family Short Stories by Amanda Paull for me today. My thanks again to Rachel’s Random Resources for inviting me to take part.
Following on from Let’s Dance, the first in the series, A Christmas Day Kerfuffle brings back the Scott family in all their eccentric glory! This time it’s Christmas Day…..a day where even the most normal of families are gripped in festive cabin fever conditions, so I was very much looking forward to reading how the Scott family would cope!
Laura is hosting Christmas morning brunch for the whole family at her house, and has dared to invite her new boyfriend, Ben, along. He’s already survived meeting the family once, after all. Comedy ensues as it is discovered that Freddie, the family poodle, is trapped. Will Ben stick around, or will the family prove too much for him to handle?
Once more, the scenes between Laura and Ben were my favourite part, their developing romance is so sweet and it is a lovely contrast to the chaotic backdrop of the Scott family: every scene they are in just leaps off the page! I would have liked a little more ‘quiet’ time to create a better balance, however, the telling is in the title – it promised a ‘kerfuffle’ and it definitely delivered!
The Scott family as a whole are great fun, and there is so much the author can do with them. After two stories I’m hoping that the third will fill in more information about the characters and start fleshing them out more to give the whole series legs for future short stories or even novellas.
Another enjoyable anecdotal tale in the lives of the Scott family. I’m looking forward to reading book three, Fenella’s Fabulous Fountain Fondue.
A blooming romance. A trapped poodle. Can their relationship survive the madness?
After a shaky start, Laura and Ben are now getting along great. So much so that Laura dares to invite him for a Christmas Day brunch with her family. As the good tidings commence, a horrifying discovery is made. Freddie, the family poodle, is trapped. Will the ensuing biblical scale mayhem sound the death knell for Laura and Ben’s budding romance? Or is he just a glutton for punishment?
If you enjoyed Let’s Dance, you’ll love A Christmas Day Kerfuffle, the second Scott Family Short Story, by Amanda Paull. Download it today to discover whether love prevails, and Freddie cooks.
