January Round Up!

I’m starting 2019 as I mean to go on, and that means a monthly round up, posted some time before the next, next month starts!

January has been a phenomenal reading month for me. I’ve burned through the pages like a reading demon possessed and that is thanks to the wonderful books I’ve read….(to be directed to the full review, please click onto the book title)

First up was A Greek Affair by Linn B. Halton. This was a real breath of fresh air after several heavy reads, and I have to admit to loving the Greek setting – the only sunshine I’ll be seeing this winter, sadly.

Taking me from sweet romance to hiding behind the duvet and sitting perilously close to the edge of my seat was Changeling by Matt Wesolowski. The podcast concept of the novel was completely unique for me, and I was completely in awe throughout.

And then came a book which I absolutely fell head over in heels in love with. The Truths and Triumphs of Grace Atherton by Anstey Harris was an epiphany read for me. So, so classy and beautiful.

It’s hard to envy the book which follows the book that you lost your heart to. But, The Secret by Katharine Johnson coped admirably with the challenge! A dual time line story set in Italy during WW2 and in the present day, it really drew me in and captivated me.

The Swan Keeper by Milana Marsenich is a book I’ve meaning to read for some months after I read her first novel, Copper Sky. Although the story, for me personally, wasn’t as exciting as her previous novel, she writes so beautifully that I could get lost in her descriptive prose!

Another book I bought months ago and was thrilled to get around to was Missing Pieces by Laura Pearson. I saw Laura had been titled the ‘Queen of Tears’ on Twitter a little while back, and I have to agree! I don’t think I’ve ever felt quite so deeply when I’ve read a book before.

Another swift change of reading direction, and I was completely hooked on The Chestnut Man by Soren Sveistrup. With a serial killer on the loose, Detectives Thulin and Hess are reluctantly partnered up to solve the crime before more lives are lost.

I was delighted to be approved via Netgalley to read and review Something to Tell You by Lucy Diamond. A novel of secrets and consequences, I was quickly drawn in. Having only discovered Lucy Diamond by chance last summer, she is quickly becoming an author I will be looking out for.

And last, but by no means least, The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. The book that is everywhere on book Twitter at the moment and will no doubt be everywhere come 7th February, when it is published!

Phew! It’s been quite a month, with rather a lot of bookish emotions and feels to be had!
