I am delighted to take part in the blog tour today for Dark and Fluffy Volume II by Janet Stock. My thanks go to Rachel’s Random Resources for inviting me to take part.
If you follow me on Twitter, you may have noted that I am rather in to short stories at the moment, and so I was really pleased when this blog tour popped up.
And what an eclectic mix, Dark and Fluffy is! Years (and years!) ago, I remember reading an album review slating an album I loved because the songs were so different and genre-hopped. Yet, that was precisely what I loved about the album. That in one CD I was able to match my mood to a song, and that is very much what the author has done here with Dark and Fluffy Volume II (and presumably Volume I, although I haven’t got around to reading it yet!) A selection of nine short stories, there is humour, the feel good factor, the dark and the even darker! The author isn’t afraid to try new genres, contemporary, medieval fiction, historical fiction (featuring a wonderful ‘alternate’ history, I may add!) and sci fi/futuristic. My personal favourites were; ‘The Man Across the Street’, which utterly held me captivated in a voyeuristic kind of way, ‘Death by Testing’, which I thought was a marvellous idea, and ‘Queens of England’, which offered an alternate history to a well known tale. I felt the collection held a little bit of something for everyone.
One of the things I really liked was the way in which the author has put a little bit of background about each piece before you read it. I’m always interested (you could also call me nosey!) how particular ideas strike, or when and why they suddenly evolve, and so, for me, this gave a really personal insight into each story and also put the authors presence firmly in my mind throughout.
A wonderfully quirky assortment of short stories – the perfect reading accompaniment to any coffee break!

Following on from Dark & Fluffy, this collection is a further nine short fiction pieces. The title Dark & Fluffy II, reflects the general styles of the stories/prose in the book. Some are a bit darker, and may be a bit uncomfortable to read, Death by Testing and The Broken Arrangement fall into this category. Others are happier, feel good pieces like The Disney Club. Whatever your preference, I’m sure you’ll find something that will grab your attention.
About the Author
I am married with one teenage son and have always been a keen reader and writer since being young. I was born in Lancashire but have lived in Lincoln for over 30 years.
Several years ago I decided to take my writing seriously. I completed an OU course in creative writing and a Writers Bureau course. Initially I concentrated on short story writing, and when I turned fifty this year, I self-published my first book, Dark and Fluffy.
I love writing short stories, but my main goal is to have a novel published. Ten years ago, I started the first book of a trilogy of novels called The Little Servant (The Wait’s Son). I am still working on this, but now I have a serious intent to get this finished this year.
My favourite genre is medieval fiction, Bernard Cornwell is my favourite author. I also like to read Edward Rutherford, Stephen King, and Dean Coontz.
