March Round-Up

I’m fully invested in my university work at the moment and so blogging and non-uni reading are having to take a back seat as I write and finalise my last assignments, and then of course it will be on to writing my dissertation, which I’m alternately excited and terrified about. I’ve done so incredibly well all year (definitely exceeding my own expectations!) I’m rather worried that I’m going to completely screw up at the final hurdle. So, if I’m quiet over the summer months I’m either hard at work, or digging myself a hole to hide in.

Anyhoo, less of me and more of the wonderful books I’ve read and reviewed over the last month!

Firstly, I fell in love with The Last Words of Madeleine Anderson by Helen Kitson. It took me completely by surprise. Its beauty lies within its subtlety and many layers. Described as a literary thriller, it really blew me away.

Next up, was Beautiful Bad by Annie Ward. When I first started reading this I really thought it wasn’t one for me, but I was soon drawn in, and by the end I couldn’t put it down!

Interwoven with the fiction books, I’d also been dipping in and out of The Point of Poetry by Joe Nutt. As a late convert to poetry, I found this a fascinating part anecdotal/part ‘educational’ glimpse into poetry and what it can mean.

I’m always keen to try new genres and new authors, and so I was drawn to Welcome to the Heady Heights by David F. Ross. Whilst I, personally, did have an initial struggle to connect with the novel, it had so many plus points and it had me laughing out loud on several occasions!

As I mentioned, I’m a late convert to poetry, and it’s rare that I don’t have a book of poetry within arms reach now. Persona Non Grata edited by Isabelle Kenyon, was my constant companion and I loved devouring and contemplating this rich selection of poetry. Fly on the Wall Poetry Press will be a company I watch out for in future!

And that’s a wrap for March! I’ve got some great reads coming up and I’m trying really hard to keep on top of everything!!
